SHOE TREES/ EMBAUCHOIRS

The shoes must be carried only one day, then arranged and can be deferred only two days later.

Why? The foot causes at the end of the day moistness or perspiration in the shoe. However leather while drying tends to retract so it‘s important, for maintaining the shoe well, to make it rest before using them again. Since leather retracts, the folds by walking become marked more and more and can end-up by cracking completely. It is most important to have an opposite action. Shoe-trees therefore have this faculty to push the leather backwards again in its original state and also absorb moistness. The wood of the shoe-tree is not varnished, but polished. Exception for the cellulose lacquer (porous) makes it possible wood to preserve all its properties.

If the average male who is 5’ 10” and weighs 170lbs wears a shoe for a day, then he should let it rest at least 2 days. (Exotics double that.) So what if you weigh 250lbs? Then your shoes need to rest even longer. Bigger guys, wider feet tend to be much harder on shoes. What does this rule tell you? Easy. Most men do not own enough shoes.

TIP: Calfskin needs about two to three days of rest between wearing. This allows the leather to “calm” itself and retain shape and last longer. For exotics, make it three to four days.
